Safety & testing

Every Squish is designed, tested and labelled to meet the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, the law that governs toys sold in Great Britain.

We'll publish a summary of the test results for each product on its page at launch. If you'd like to see the full reports, just ask.

Safe play guidance

Simple, plain-English guidance for everyone who looks after children — parents, carers, teachers and any other grown-ups.

• Suitable for ages 3 and over. Please supervise young children while they play.
• Not for chewing. Squish isn't a teething toy. Don't let children bite, chew or suck it. If a child tends to mouth or chew toys, please stay close and supervise their play.
• Check it regularly. If it's split or torn, take it away straight away and contact us for a replacement under our guarantee.
• Keep away from heat. Keep it away from open flames, radiators and direct sunlight.
• Keep it dry. Wipe clean only — don't machine-wash, soak or use it in the bath.
• Not for pets. Keep it out of reach of dogs and cats, who may chew it.
• Keep the packaging information — it has our contact details and the batch number, in case you ever need them.

Report a safety concern

If you have any concern about the safety of a Squish product, please stop using it and email with "Safety" in the subject line, your order number and the batch number from the pack. We treat every safety report as a priority and will respond within one working day.

If we ever need to recall a product, we'll email affected customers, publish the details on this page and notify the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), which lists recalls at gov.uk/product-safety-alerts-reports-recalls.

Sustainability — the honest version

Toys have an environmental cost, and ours are no exception. Here's what we've done, what we haven't solved yet, and what we're working on. We'd rather be specific and truthful than vague and green-sounding.

What we've done

• Made to last. The most sustainable toy is one that's loved for years. Squish is designed for durability and backed by a -month guarantee.
• Paper-based packaging. Our boxes, gift tags and inserts are made from paperboard and card that can go in your household recycling.
• Less in the parcel. No plastic fillers or unnecessary inserts; orders are shipped in recyclable cardboard mailers.
• No added fragrance. Better for sensitive noses — and one less additive.

What we haven't solved yet

• Foam. The slow-rise polyurethane foam that makes Squish so squishy is made from fossil-fuel-derived materials and isn't biodegradable or widely recyclable.
• Shipping from our manufacturer. Our toys are made overseas and shipped to the UK. We ship by sea rather than air, which has a much lower carbon footprint, and plan production to avoid rush orders.

What we're working on

• A take-back scheme, so outgrown or damaged friends can be returned and recycled responsibly instead of going to landfill.
• Testing foams with recycled or bio-based content that meet the same safety standards.
• Measuring our carbon footprint after our first full year, and publishing it here.

When it's outgrown

• Pass it on. If it's clean and undamaged, a Squish makes a lovely hand-me-down — wipe it clean first.
• Packaging: the box, card and tag can go in your household paper and card recycling. Any clear window film should be removed and put in general waste.
• The toy: until our take-back scheme launches, damaged Squish toys should go in general waste, not recycling, as foam can contaminate recycling streams.
